BBC have revealed that the original Cybermen are returning for Doctor Who’s tenth series. Officially revealing the return of the original Mondasian Cybermen earlier this week caused excitement on Twitter and Facebook as fans got their first glimpse of the enemies in action.
The modern day return of the robots marks over 50 years since their first appearance in the show, first appearing in The Tenth Planet back in 1966. Filming has begun on the final block of Series 10 – which also serves as the penultimate appearance for Peter Capaldi as The Doctor.
The Mondasian Cybermen will appear in Episode 11 and 12 of the brand new series. The episode will also see the anticipated return of Michelle Gomez as Missy and feature new companions Nardole, played by Matt Lucas and Bill Potts, played by Pearl Mackie.
Peter Capaldi previously stated his longing to go up against the original versions of The Doctor’s deadly foes.”I’m always a great fan of the Mondasian Cybermen. I think we’d be able to render them in a very terrifying way with modern technology – not, as Steven Moffat says, with a balaclava!”
Doctor Who returns to our screens on Saturday 15th April with the first episode of a 12 episode run on BBC One.
