The first announcement for the annual Common People festival has been announced. The event will be held on May 27th and May 28th 2017 in the Southampton Common.
This is the third year of the festival, last year it also travelled to Oxford. This year it will be hosted in Oxford as well, with the acts alternating days. It will be hosted on the same days in Oxford at South Park.
It is also the second year of having the Uncommon Stage which has been set up by some of the workers at Southampton’s legendary venue, The Joiners. The festival was put together by people who own Bestival, as they wanted a festival that was smaller and multi-genre. It is described by the owners as “a glorious two-day metropolitan festival, uniting all tribes under the Southampton sky, bringing the blithe spirit of Bestival right to the heart of the city.”
Back on 14th February 2017, the Joiners decided to put on a small concert called ‘I Want To Play Common People’ where small acts got to compete for the chance to play at the Southampton festival. These acts included: Calum Lintott, Costia, Submariner, Endless Peaks and Glass Foundations. None of those acts have yet been announced for the festival.
The festival has previously hosted acts such as: Primal Scream, Craig David, Public Enemy, The Sugarhill Gang, Duran Duran, Katy B, Fatboy Slim, Years & Years and Clean Bandit.
There are acts from Sean Paul to The Heritage Orchestra announced. Some of the highlights are people like Amy Macdonald, Tom Odell, Faithless (DJ SET), Sean McGowan, Black Honey and Natives.
Alongside all the acts, they also have things such as the world’s biggest bouncy castle and vintage fun fair rides.
